Peace Pole: We Hold the Earth

The peace pole at our church entrance was installed in 2002 to remind us to always work toward peaceful means.

The weekend of September 21 and 22 we will commemorate the International Day of Peace (Sept 21) and recommit ourselves to actively work for peace. This year’s theme, Climate Action for Peace, was chosen by the United Nations as the 13th of 17 Sustainable Development Goals for the world. It calls for immediate action by all lands to lower greenhouse emissions, build resilience and improve education on climate change which causes clear threats to international peace and security. Natural disasters displace three times as many people as conflicts, displacing millions to seek safety elsewhere. The growing tensions over resources and mass movements of people affect every country on every continent. Please join us next weekend after Mass for a short ceremony around the Peace Pole.
