The Toll of Parental Incarceration on the Children

As we are planning the summer activities for our own families, Sister Peggy Devaney, director of the Oakland County Jail Ministry, is asking us to provide some summer activities for kids whose parent is in jail.

We often forget the “shared sentence” on the children of incarcerated parents – absence of that adult in the family, multiple moves from familiar neighborhoods, whispers from other kids.

These kids are part of our community. We would like to see them have some fun this summer. With our financial support, the Jail Ministry volunteers can plan events – a camp experience, a Tiger baseball game, a trip to our zoo.

There are envelopes on the entry bulletin board. Please make checks to “St. John Fisher Chapel” with Jail Ministry on the memo line.
